The Challenge

The Serra de Tramuntana is a landscape of immense cultural significance, shaped over generations by the people of Mallorca. To fully appreciate this heritage, it is important to explore the region through a literary lens that allows for reflection on its identity and the creation of new narratives that engage with its classical portrayal. Engaging local writers is crucial to deepening the understanding and appreciation of this unique space, while also highlighting the value of local culture and language.

The Solution

The Writing the Tramuntana project brought together seven prominent Mallorcan writers, known for their work in poetry and narrative, to explore and reflect on the perception of the Serra de Tramuntana. Through a series of creative meetings held at the Son Torrella estate, the authors crafted original literary texts inspired by their experiences and views of the Serra. These texts were compiled into a single publication, offering a contemporary literary perspective that complements the traditional views of Costa and Llobera.

Key Initiatives

  • Participation of Local Writers: Seven Mallorcan writers with established careers in poetry and narrative collaborated on the project.
  • Creative Meetings: The authors gathered at the Son Torrella estate to engage in the creative process and develop their literary contributions.
  • Joint Publication: The literary texts were compiled and published in a book titled "Writing the Serra Today: Beyond Costa and Llobera."
  • Distribution: The book was presented at a public event at the Raixa estate and is being distributed across municipal libraries in the towns of the Tramuntana region.
