The Challenge

Horta de Dalt is an area rich in natural and cultural heritage, historically linked to the three springs that have supplied Palma with water for centuries. Despite its potential for agricultural development within the municipality, the area is experiencing a decline in agricultural activity and a reduction in rural and environmental diversity due to urban pressure and speculation. This situation calls for initiatives that promote the understanding and appreciation of Horta de Dalt's cultural and natural heritage, particularly among those who can benefit most from this knowledge, such as the patients of Son Espases Hospital.

The Solution

The ABC Horta de Dalt project offers a variety of activities tailored to adults and young people attending the day hospital, as well as to children who are inpatients at the public school within the hospital, and, when necessary, individually in their rooms. These activities cover topics such as sustainable water management, best practices in agriculture and land management, biodiversity, and healthy living habits, including the consumption of local products. The project's objectives are aligned with strengthening local biodiversity, promoting traditional activities, and enhancing the cultural heritage of the area, all in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
